Metrolink heads east

Out of the undercroftWe were pointed in the direction of Richard’s Tram Blog, who has been out and about taking in some of the construction work on the new Metrolink line to Eastlands, Droylsden and Ashton-under-Lyne for posterity. Richard has been out with his camera recently at the back of Piccadilly station, around Ancoats and New Islington, along Ashton New Road (and back again) and as far as Droylsden.

We understand Metrolink are keen to get trams up and running as far as the Manchester City stadium before the end of the year, to try and cash in on matchdays! The official plan is to open as far as Droylsden by Spring 2012, and all the way to Ashton by Winter 2013/2014.
