Testing continues on Metrolink line to Chorlton

Two Metrolink trams testing on the Chorlton line

Our thanks go to Martin Southin for giving us permission to use this great photo from Skyscraper City showing two trams testing side-by-side on the Chorlton line. Although the first sign of trams on the line was back in November, testing this month has been with the trams moving under their own power from the overhead lines.

Construction has come a long way since we visited the line in August, and we plan to revisit once it opens. When will that be? Everything looks to be on progress for the “Spring 2011” opening date, though there are still one or two question marks over the new signalling system given its problematic introduction on the MediaCityUK line – another points failure on Monday led to suspension of services along the spur for a time.

We’re always on the lookout for interesting photos and stories: if you’d like to contribute material then get in touch with us!
